Shop Virtually with Sloane’s to Save Time & Money

When the world turned upside down in March 2020, so many of us had to change the way we work, live, learn, socialize and even shop. For the staff at Sloane’s Carpet Secret, we quickly began to wonder if buying carpet was one of those activities like algebra class or happy hour that could be accomplished virtually.

The answer, as Sales Associate Brett Hoyt has learned after hundreds of virtual visits, is a definite “Yes!” Thanks to the right technology, vast product expertise and a little imagination, Hoyt and other sales staff at Sloane’s are delivering virtual appointments for customers that come very close to the experience of an in-person visit.

How It Works

You’ll make your virtual appointment at a time that’s convenient for you, and your salesperson will conduct it via a tablet or phone and Zoom. One of Hoyt’s first questions is whether you’ve shopped with Sloane’s before. If you haven’t, you’ll hear about our revolutionary model: we scour the biggest U.S. carpet mills to find premium carpet with barely noticeable flaws, then pass on up to 70% off discounts to you.

A few more questions usually follow along with some virtual shopping.

  • Type of Property: Is the carpeting for your own home and enjoyment? Are you putting your home on the market? Or is it a rental property?
  • Room size: What’s the approximate square footage of the room or rooms?
  • Carpet type: Do you like Berber, Patterns or Plushes? All of the Sloane’s salespeople have extensive knowledge about the differences and benefits of each, and which type of carpet tends to work best for which type of use. Do you want something soft and cushy? Do you want something more durable for a high-traffic area?  How does padding work and which type of padding works best for each scenario? Hoyt always gives an up-close review of different carpet types to zero in on your category.
  • Color: Are you leaning toward tan, brown or grey tones? Our warehouse has over 1,000,000 square feet of high-end carpet, mostly in neutral tones. Hoyt often compares two different carpets in different shades of a single color to pinpoint your color preference. One of the advantages of shopping remotely is that customers can see their options on-screen in the room they want to carpet!
  • Carpet Makeup: Once you’ve narrowed it down to a few favorites, you’ll get an in-depth education on the composition of the carpet fibers, twist, density, stain-resistance and more. “I walk customers through the label on the back, explaining everything,” says Hoyt. He also compares two similar carpet samples, one with a 30-ounce face weight and the other at 60 ounces. “I put my fingers into each carpet to show customers how deeply they go into the pile,” showing you how the density of the carpet affects how it feels.

“We selected an amazing carpet and scheduled installation within an hour–all without ever leaving our living room! The team was super knowledgeable and made the entire process seamless.”

Buying That Perfect Carpet

Once you’ve found the winner, you’ll secure your carpet with a credit card. And, of course, you get to see your carpet before the installation! Your salesperson sends along a sample with your installer when he comes for measurement. “If the carpet doesn’t meet your expectations when you see it in-person, you can choose a different carpet,” assures Hoyt. He also says that many customers are pleasantly surprised at the ease and efficiency of virtual appointments. “Usually, they’re really stunned they didn’t have to leave the house to buy carpet,” he says.

Take it from a customer who recently purchased at Sloane’s: “Shopping virtually with Sloane’s was easier than we ever imagined,” affirms Eli F. from Boulder. “We selected an amazing carpet and scheduled installation for our 3,000 sqft home within an hour–all without ever leaving our living room! The team was super knowledgeable and made the entire process seamless.”

Try a virtual appointment at Sloane’s the next time you’re shopping for carpet. Even if you decide to come to our warehouse in-person for the final decision-making, you’ll knock out most of your shopping before you even set foot in our warehouse.
