Quick Fixes for Floor Mishaps this Holiday Season
We’ve all been there – your house is full, the party is in full swing and then suddenly…someone spills, drops something or damages the floor. And, while it feels like you want everyone to leave while you repair, you probably just need to take a minute and make a quick fix.
Don’t worry; Sloane’s Carpet Secret has a few tips to help you make it to the end of the holidays with a few on-the-fly fixes.
Carpet
Spills: If it’s just a spill on the carpet, a fix is easy. Dab the spill, get some appropriate cleaner, and you’re good. The trick here is to make sure you’re cleaning the fiber correctly. When your carpet is installed, ensure you know the preferred cleaning method, as synthetic fibers are much different than natural ones.
Rips: It takes a lot to tear a carpet, but if it does happen, there are tons of carpet patch kits (check Amazon) that can help you if you’re in a bind. But, the best advice we can offer is to replace the damaged carpet as soon as possible. Even a repaired carpet will have a weak spot; if you let it go, it will likely cost you more.
Expected Wear: Regular professional cleaning will almost always add life to your carpet. Professional cleaning is likely only necessary every 18 months or so. Other than that, a regular vacuum is all you need.
Luxury Vinyl Plank
Great news: LVP is pretty sturdy, and you might not need a quick-fix repair plan. The advantage of LVP over hardwood (for example) is obviously the cost and time savings. And you’ll also have less maintenance, and in some cases, you’ll be less likely to have damage.
Spills: This is a no-brainer. LVP is not fussy like some other floors can be. If you or your guests drop food or beverage on LVP, a damp cloth will do this as simple as cleaning it up with a damp cloth.
Rips or Punctures: LVP is sturdy, so you’ll not likely need a quick fix. But if you do, it is easy to replace. A few YouTube videos can help you repair and replace damaged planks, and you’ll be good as new in no time.
Expected Wear: Even more good news: normal wear and tear is not going to do any damage to your LVP floors. Unlike some hardwood or manufactured wood floors, there is not likely to be any shifting, warping or settling. Your LVP is just as stable as the floor you put it on.
