Tips for a Cozy Guest Room
Do you have a spare room in your house just waiting to be lived in, but you just aren’t sure where to begin to make it feel like a home for your guests? We’ve been in your shoes before, so we’re here to help you create a cozy guest room that will almost make your company never want to leave. We’ll walk you through the essentials such as carpet, as well as a couple fun extras, that will make your spare room perfect for your guests.
Start With a Bed
When guests come to visit they may not be expecting the Four Seasons, but they are expecting an actual bed. This means no futons, blow-up mattresses or couches. While these may be perfect for 8th grade sleepovers, they just aren’t going to cut it for your brother and his wife, or your mother-in-law. Unless you want to hear about your guest’s neck cramp all week, you might want to invest in a decent quality queen-sized bed. Save yourself some money by not purchasing a king, but don’t skimp on quality. Make sure to freshly launder the sheets right before your guest’s arrival!
Closet, Dresser or Wardrobe
Not many people like living out of a suitcase when traveling. In order to help your guests feel comfortable, give them somewhere to put their clothes. A couple of drawers and a few feet of closet space will do, but make sure they have something. Not all rooms are equipped with a closet, but adding a dresser or wardrobe to make up for that will ensure your guest’s happiness too.
Side Table and Lamp
A soothing way to end the day for many people is to sit in bed and read a few chapters of their favorite book. An overhead lamp can be too harsh for the evening, especially if reading is a way for your guest to get sleepy. Having a lamp on a bedside table will give your guest sufficient light as they read their book and they can just roll over to turn it off when they are ready for bed. A lamp is also perfect for middle of the night bathroom runs.
Artwork
Rooms that are comfortable to live in are also aesthetically pleasing to look at. A guest room with plain walls is boring and slightly depressing. Make sure to include a couple pieces of artwork on the walls. As Colorado residents, it is always a fun idea to include photos or paintings of our mountains and wildlife.
