Affordable Family Fun
Summer is usually full of weekend cookouts, sporting events and nights out on the town. But sometimes filling up your weekend with events can be expensive. Take a look at a few affordable family fun ideas for this summer. Denver’s summer climate makes any outdoor activity enjoyable, as long as you drink plenty of water. Flying a kite or playing Frisbee can be fun for the whole family and you don’t have to drive very far to find a park or an empty lot. Washington Park and the Denver Skate Park are always good spots to take a walk, join in on a volleyball game, or play croquet under the shade of a tree. If you’re looking to be inspired by a majestic view, look no further than Devil’s Head Fire Lookout or St. Mary’s Glacier. These two spots are perfect getaways for adventure and a little bit of history. Red Rocks also falls into the category of inspiriting. Take a walk (or run) up the steps of this classic amphitheater. Or have lunch at the top of the steps and view of one of Colorado’s breathtaking skyline. If you’re tired of the heat, then keep cool in the Denver Art Museum. The entry fee for adults runs around $10.00 and the fee for kids under the age of 18 is under than $5.00. The Colorado State Capital and the U.S. Mint are always good for those that crave a bit of history. Both of these historical Denver landmarks are free to the public; although, it is recommended that you make a reservation if you want to tour the U.S. Mint. The Children’s Museum of Denver is always a fun place to take the kids. Your kids will have fun interacting with this hands-on museum and they may actually learn something! If you’re looking to do something later in the evening, try an art walk in Denver’s art district located on Santa Fe Drive. The art district is always buzzing during July through September, which showcases 60 venues that you can browse various pieces of artwork. The festivities take place along Santa Fe Drive between 5th and 10th Avenues. And finally, take the family out to Hammond’s Candy Factory for a free tour, with free samples. Tours run every half-hour Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:P00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. We’re sure that these affordable ideas will be fun for the entire family.
