Denver Carpet Installation Company Celebrates Oktoberfest the Mile High Way
As a Denver carpet installation company, we’re always on the lookout for ways to enjoy our beautiful city. Nearly 400,000 bier-lovin’ Coloradoans can’t be wrong as they flock to downtown Denver’s Larimer Street every year to celebrate Oktoberfest the Mile High way! They must be on to something, because Denver’s Oktoberfest has been named by Maxim magazine and USA Today as The Best Oktoberfest in the United States and “one of the country’s biggest and longest running traditions.” If you’ve never been, isn’t it about time to see what the buzz is about? Start looking for your lederhose and mark your calendar for the two-weekend celebration held this year on September 19-21 and 26-28.
What is Oktoberfest . . .besides a roaring good time?
Once upon a time, on October 12, 1810, Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Bucking tradition, the couple invited commoners to the five-day royal celebration and more than 40,000 people showed up to eat, drink and be merry. A year later, they decided to do it all over again to celebrate the anniversary of the royal couple. And, the rest, as they say, is history.
This year, we’re celebrating the 45th Denver Oktoberfest. In 1969, Fred and Hertha Thomas, who owned two shops on Larimer Square, decided to celebrate a favorite Oktoberfest tradition by tapping a keg and serving a few pretzels and white radishes. From that quiet beginning, the Denver Oktoberfest just keeps growing and getting better at its current location at 20th and Larimer. Today, it’s a favorite of thousands who come to enjoy the food, beer and entertainment.
Lebensmittel (Food) and Bier (Beer)
One of the main draws of the event is the authentic German food that’s available to buy including brats, sausage, sauerkraut, potato salad and sweet treats. According to local organizers, Denver’s celebration goes through twice as many kegs as any other Oktoberfest in the United States. The amount of beer consumed during the six-day fest is more than many local establishments brew in an entire year! On tap this year is Octoberfest by Sam Adams—a Marzen, the traditional beer for Oktoberfest.
