Denver Carpet Company Compiles a List of Free Denver Holiday Celebrations

As the holiday season descends upon the Mile High City, even those that are watching every penny are able to add a bit of holiday jubilation thanks to several free holiday events in the metro area. And some of Denver’s most iconic holiday celebrations are actually free! Scrooge doesn’t stand a chance this year, once you see all the free holiday fun on the list our discount carpet company has compiled for 2014!

Denver City and County Holiday Lights
‘Twas the night before Christmas in 1914 when pioneering electrician D.D. Sturgeon dipped clear light bulbs in red and green paint and strung them over an evergreen tree in the front yard to cheer up his ill grandson. The display became the talk of the town and when officials decided to decorate Denver’s City and County Building, Mr. Sturgeon was tapped to be the perfect consultant for the job. Today, you can see what has become the largest single holiday spectacle in Colorado with tens of thousands of LED lights displayed on the building beginning the day after Thanksgiving until New Year’s Day, plus during the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo that begins mid-January.

9NEWS Parade of Lights
All the elements of a fantastic parade—marching bands, dazzling floats, giant balloons and more—are on display at downtown’s Parade of Lights, December 5 at 8 p.m. and December 6 at 6 p.m. Find your spot early along the 2-mile route and settle in for an evening of fun!

Ice Skating at Skyline Park
Lace up those skates and head to downtown’s Skyline Park, on the corner of 16th and Arapahoe to enjoy free ice skating in the heart of the city from November 25 to February 16. Skate rental is available for $2, but you’re welcome to bring your own skates.

TubaChristmas
You must see—and hear—it to believe it! Three hundred tuba players from all over the Rocky Mountain region come to Denver’s Skyline Park on December 21 at 1 p.m. to play all your favorite holiday tunes at the 39th annual TubaChristmas.

New Year’s Fireworks Display x 2
To bid a fond farewell to 2014 and ring in the new year, downtown will once again have two identical fireworks displays—9pm and midnight—to accommodate families and others who want an early celebration as well as those who will hold out for the final countdown.
